Dunaföldvár

The stream cable between Dunaföldvár and Solt, October 23, 1936.

The m. out. postmaster general ordered the laying of a power cable between Dunaföldvár and Solt, which was made by Siemens-Schuckert works. The preparatory work for laying began in Dunaföldvár and Solton on October 20 and 21, 1936, with the marking of trenches and the setting up of signal posts. In recent days, in Budapest, the foundation necessary for the mounting of the swivel stool was prepared in the barge, the stool was strengthened, the cable drum was inserted and finally the brake was installed. On October 22, the work team consisting of 2 line masters, 2 line supervisors and 50 remote workers dug the 115 m long trenches on the Solti side and the 243 m long trenches on the Dunaföldvár side, together with the necessary connecting trenches. On the same day, at 21:00 in the evening, the barge prepared in the above way left Budapest for Dunaföldvár, towed by the steamer Venus. On October 23rd, the cable was laid in the riverbed from the Solti side, initially towards the Dunaföldvár side. After a 20-minute trial session, the cable was pulled out and laid in the dug trench at 8:30 a.m. The laying in the bed lasted from 10:10 to 10:30, and the laying in the trench, tying and burial was completed at 11:10 on the Dunaföldvár side as well. On November 10, 11 and 12, the distributor was installed, the cable was laid out and connected. The total cable length is 1050 m.
